Who am I?

I’m Will McCarthy, a Cognitive Scientist and Senior AI Research Scientist at Autodesk Research.

The goal of my research is to foster the development of systems that complement and extend human creative abilities, rather than replace them. To that end, I've worked on benchmarks for 3D CAD, multimodal dataset creation, and interactive evaluation frameworks.

Bio

I studied PhD in Cognitive Science in the Cognitive Tools Lab (UC San Diego), where I investigated how creative behaviors impact downstream cognition. I’ve published research papers in leading AI venues, such as NeurIPS, ICLR, EMNLP, and Cognitive Science. I joined Autodesk Research in 2023.

On good days I'm also an artist–– painting, producing electronic music, or something inbetween.
